| Hickory Flat Basketball
Association has always maintained that our primary
focus is our children. Teaching, Training and Setting Goals for
our players, giving players the chance
to succeed, along with good sportsmanship, characterizes the mission
we had set many years ago and is still our mission today.
We want to give our community options in playing
basketball, from fast paced, high intensity competitive games, to
a more focused and structured game based on teaching fundamentals.
This year we have introduced a new league to our
community, the Sequoyah Regional Basketball League
is a league for players in 1st grade to 6th grade and who attend
one of the Elementary schools which feed Dean Rusk Middle School
(Hickory Flat, Mountain Road, Arnold Mill and Johnston). The basis
for this league is to keep players, who will be attending the same
Middle School and High School, playing together. Building comarodary
and friendships across elementary school boundaries. The league
is focused on building skills and teaching fundamentals in a more
relaxed environment building a foundation for Middle School and
High School basketball players. Each team in this league will have
a SHS Varsity or JV player as an assistant coach allowing the HS
players an opportunity to serve their community. Each teams Head
Coach will also be required to become certified through Collegiate
Prep Academy in Alpharetta. All games will be played in the Hickory
Flat area. Teams are drafted from the pool of players. This is a
more cost effective basketball league, relying on team sponsorships
in order to keep player costs down.
For several years, our community has been playing
basketball in the Cherokee County Youth Basketball recreation
basketball league. This league open to players ages 6 years to 18
years who live in participating elementary school districts. Teams
are broken up into divisions by elementary school. Games are played
throughout Cherokee County. CCYB is a more competitive recreation
league then SRBL, where you will have elementary schools competing
against one an other. Parent coaches are used and given a standard
curriculum of drills and game plans to teach. Teams are drafted
from the pool of players registered.
The third league managed by HFBA is the OPEN
Division league. This league extends the spring and summer
basketball season into the fall. Allowing the more competative teams
the ability to continue to play and also bring in newly formed teams
from the surrounding areas. This league is for formed teams, there
is no draft or individual player registrations. A very competitive,
faced paced and highly intense game.
